Obituary for Paul R. Morrissey, Jr.

Paul R. Morrissey, Jr., age 90, formerly of North Attleboro, died Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at Sturdy Hospital, due to complications with pneumonia. Born in East Providence, RI on October 13, 1927. He was the son of the late Paul Richard Morrissey and Florence (nee Anderson) Morrissey. He was the brother of the late Everett George Morrissey and Earl Bernard Morrissey. He was raised and educated in Attleboro and resided in Attleboro and Taunton for most of his life.

Paul was a member of our “Greatest Generation” and proudly served his country in the US Navy during WWII. Serving on APL 42, a Barrack Barge (a superstructure for use as a temporary barracks for sailors – Pennant #41 was known as the Waldorf Astoria). Paul was seventeen years old when he met his true love, Lorraine I. (nee Menard) Morrissey. They were married on August 2, 1947 and have stayed in Massachusetts all of their married life. Paul was a deeply spiritual man recognized for his sense of humor and great kindness.

Paul began his career at L.G. Balfour in Attleboro in 1951. He began as a grease buffer & polisher and completed his career as Plant Manager of the paper division of L.G. Balfour in 1989. He was employed by Balfour for 38 years. After he retired from Balfour, he and Lorraine became travel directors, coordinating and sponsoring coach, air and ocean tours for both the Balfour Gold Dusters and the Rocky Knoll Estates in Taunton. They organized these trips for about ten years.

He is survived by his loving wife of seventy years, Lorraine, and his three daughters, Linda Morrissey Kerrigan and her late husband Hugh of Foxborough, Barbara Morrissey Colligan and her husband Don of Plymouth and Paula Morrissey Lee and her late husband John of South Attleboro. His most precious gift was his family, three daughters, four grandchildren, Brian, Rob, Stacey and Kaitlyn, whom he cherished. He is also the great-grandfather of Bryan, Shayne, Dylan, Olivia, Ethan, Logan, Grayson, Emily, Garrett and Allyson. He was known as “Buddy” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a hero to his daughters, was loved by everyone and respected by a legion of friends, colleagues and acquaintances. Paul loved his home at “The Branches” and his many caring friends there.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Monday, July 23 from 4 to 7 PM at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South Street, Foxborough. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 AM at St. Mary’s Church, 58 Carpenter Street, Foxborough. Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Foxborough.
