Obituary for Ralph F. Hunt

Ralph F. Hunt, age 92, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by the comfort of his loving family on June 10, 2018. He was the son of the late Ralph and Lillian (Sylvester) Hunt. Born in Stoughton on November 13, 1925 Ralph joined the US Army right after high school in 1942 and proudly served his country during WWII.

His hobbies included genealogy, golf, bird watching, boating, Bocci and travel. He especially enjoyed spending winters in Southwest Florida. He was an avid outdoorsman and spent extensive time fishing and hunting at the family camp on Lake Champlain in Vermont.

He was married to his wife Edna (Dumas) Hunt on December 12, 1948 and they have resided in East Foxboro ever since.

Ralph was extremely active in many organizations. He was a Boy Scout leader, a member of the local boat club, a member of the American Legion, VFW Post 2626, Foxboro Historical Society, volunteer for Share, Meals on Wheels, Red Cross, Founders Day and many other projects at St. Mary’s Church. He was one of the founding members of the Foxboro Knights of Columbus Chapter. He co-founded the Knights of Columbus charity farm stand and volunteered there for years raising thousands of dollars for those in need.

After serving in the Army, Ralph attended trade school then worked at Brookfield Engineering in Stoughton before securing a job at the Foxboro Post Office. He worked for 30 years as a letter carrier and then as a clerk before retiring.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Edna. Loving father of five: Robert and his wife Pam of NH, Susan Goulet and her husband Ray of North Attleboro, Thomas of Foxboro, Diane French of Mansfield, David and his wife Michelle of Rehoboth and daughter in law Catherine Nadeau Hunt of Norton. Devoted grandfather of eight and great grandfather of five. He was predeceased by his son Gregory Hunt of Foxboro. Ralph was the eldest of six children and was predeceased by four sisters and one brother.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 7 PM at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South Street, Foxborough on Sunday, June 17th. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 11 AM at St. Mary’s Church, 58 Carpenter Street, Foxborough. Interment to follow at Rock Hill Cemetery, Foxborough.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ralph’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 25231.
