Obituary for Richard W. Simpson

Richard W. Simpson, age 78, passed away surrounded by the comfort of his loving family on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at the Harrington House in Walpole. He was the son of the late Wendell and Ruth (Mullen) Simpson.

Richard was born in Boston on September 13, 1940 and was raised in Dedham. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp. He and his wife Glenda were married in March of 1987.

Richard, better known as “Dick” was a cook in the earlier years at the Midway Steak House in Dedham. Then as a chef at Cory’s restaurant in Dedham. In later years he cooked at Beacon’s in Walpole until his retirement in 2002. When Dick was a child he would ride his bike 22 miles from Dedham to Lake Populatic in Norfolk to fish and be on the lake with his grandparents at their cottage. He loved that place so much he bought his own place on Lake Populatic and has been there for 45 years.

He was a movie buff. He loved John Wayne and would take on every movie marathon of him. He enjoyed cooking, spending time with his family, fishing and humming along to a tune with Johnny cash or Frank Sinatra. He always said “who needs a vacation when you live someplace like this.

Beloved husband of Glenda F. (Ellis) Simpson. Loving father of Renae McGraw and her husband Eric of Walpole and Richard Simpson of Norfolk. Grandfather Kendra Bond and her husband Robert, Eric McGraw, Jr. and his wife Jessica, Brittany Ciavattone and her husband Jonathan and Dylan McGraw. Great Grandfather of Hailey, Alyssa and Madisyn Bond. Brother of Robert W. Simpson and Rhonda W. Simpson. Nephew and God Son of Frances (Mullen) Norbut.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a celebration of Life with United States Marine Corps Honors on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 11 AM at Conrad’s Restaurant 907 Main Street in Walpole. For additional information please contact the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home at 508-543-5471.
