Obituary for Gordon H. Stanley, Jr.

Gordon H. Stanley, Jr. age 71, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2018 in East Sandwich. Gordon was the son of the late Gordon and Leonora (Gamble) Stanley.

Gordon was born on August 28, 1946 in Boston. He attended Foxborough High School, MacMurray College, in Jackson, IL, and was a graduate of Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He also completed post graduate studies at Museum of Fine Arts School in Boston, MA. Gordon proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He found the love of his life and married Rebecca (Hawk) on February 22, 2015, in Belmont, MA. He began his work-life building houses on Cape Cod and after college was employed for many years as a marketing executive and publishing consultant. The many firms he worked for included Digital Equipment, Corporation, Compaq, and Boston University. He was the director of marketing for Harvard University School of Public Health and did other consulting and production work in the Boston area. He finished his career with National Geographic Learning.

He was a sketch artist and political cartoonist whose work was published in the Boston Globe. He was most proud of his mural at the Franklin Park Zoo. He loved traveling the world, learning and experiencing new cultures and spending time with the people of each region he visited. He was an avid reader, self-taught and conversant in many subjects. His carpentry skills came in handy as he worked together with his wife to remodel their own Cape house in Sandwich, MA. Gordon loved spending time there and enjoyed being by the sea and living close to nature. He also enjoyed experiences and communications with the numerous recent and life-long friends that he maintained contact with throughout his life.

Beloved husband of Rebecca Hawk Stanley. Devoted stepfather of Holly-Joy and her husband, James Jorgensen, of Yakima, WA and Zachary Elwood of Jamaica Plain, MA. Loving grandfather of Savannah Jorgensen and Peyton Jorgensen. Brother of Lynne Stanley Iavarone and her husband Jerry of Palm Bay, FL and the late Martha Stanley Raymond. Loving uncle of Jarrod Iavarone and his wife Candace; J. Robert Zoeller and his spouse Garrett; David Iavarone and his wife Meredith; and Melissa McDonagh and her husband Gavin. Also survived by many grandnieces and grandnephews.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a Celebration of Life Service on Friday, July 20 at 1:00 PM at the Bethany Congregational Church, 3 Rockhill Street, Foxborough.
