Buzzards Bay-David A. McMakin, age 78, passed on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at his home surrounded by the comfort of his loving family. He was the son of the late William and Helen (Milne) McMakin.
David was born in Boston on June 13, 1933. He proudly served his country in the United States Army National Guard. David and his wife Barbara were married in 1959 at Saint Brigid's Church in South Boston. They raised and educated their family in Arlington. For many years they spent weekends and vacations at their family home in Buzzards Bay where they have resided for the past ten years.
David worked as a truck driver and as a Teamster for Union Local 25 in Boston until his retirement in 1996. David was a communicant of St. Margaret's Church in Buzzards Bay. He was an active member of the Bourne Council on Aging where he volunteered for Meals on Wheels and drove people to doctorís appointments. He loved playing golf and cribbage, swimming and cooking for his family and friends. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Beloved husband of Barbara (Joyce) McMakin. Loving father/father-in-law of Barbara, Paul/Jennifer, Kathleen Tara, Liam/Kim, Patrick/Linda, David/Jean, Seumas/Marsha, Anna Rey/Raymond, Mary Dallas/Matt, Ian/Cynthia and Margaret/John. Devoted Daido of Brenna, Ronan, Eamon, Gwyn, Ryan, Mary Kate, Brigid, Siobhan, Nora, Matthew, Sarah, Jenna, Colleen, Haley, Seumas, Ella, Liam, Brendan, Maureen, Kiley, Neve and Quinn. Brother of the late William and Paul. Dear friend of William Miller.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Saturday, February 25 at 11 am at Saint Margaret's Church, 141 Main Street, Buzzards Bay. Collation to follow at the Trowbridge Tavern and Canal Club, 100 Trowbridge Road, Bourne. Arrangements are under the care of the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, Foxborough.
