Robert Howard Barrows, age 91, died Sunday, March 12, 2017, surrounded by the comfort of his loving family. Robert was predeceased by his beloved wife of 65 years, Janice (Brown) Barrows. He was the loving son of the late Fred J. and Christine (Fletcher) Barrows. Brother of Charles King of Mansfield and the late Russell Barrows and Ruth (Barrows) Macomber.
Robert was born and raised in Mansfield. He served his country proudly in the Army during the Korean War and is a disabled veteran. After many years of faithful service, he retired from the U.S. Postal Service. Bob and Janice traveled the world together. He was a former deacon of the Orthodox Congregational Church in Mansfield, a former President and Board member of the Spring Brook Cemetery, a member of the Mansfield Elks and a member of the Saint James Lodge of Masons. He also served the Town of Mansfield as a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals.
Robert is survived by his three cherished children: Cynthia Barrows and her husband Ronald Berkowitz of Newton; State Representative Jay Barrows of Mansfield and Robert H. Barrows, Jr. and his wife Stephanie of Smithfield, RI. He also leaves nine grandchildren whom he adored: Matthew and Alison Berkowitz, Cameron Barrows and his wife Bella, Colby Barrows and his wife Karin, Christopher Barrows and his wife Britney, Caitlin Barrows and Brent, Spencer and Alexa Barrows and four great grandchildren: Logan, Luke, Lucy and Hazel Barrows. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South Street, Foxborough on Thursday, March 16th from 4-8 PM. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 AM at the Union Church of South Foxborough, 384 South Street. Interment to follow at Spring Brook Cemetery, Mansfield.
