Retired Walpole Teacher and former Owner of Foxboro Jewelers
FOXBOROUGH-Richard Phillips Thompson, former Foxborough selectman, at the age of 71, passed away on November 15, 2013 at The Harrington House, Walpole, MA. He was the son of the late Frances (Phillips) and John Thompson.
Richard was a graduate of Marblehead H.S. and Salem State College. He taught at Marblehead Junior High School following college graduation and then taught math and science at Walpole Junior High School for several years. He was a former President of the South Shore Teachers Association.
After his teaching career, he became a key employee of the former Conkey Swimming Pool Company in Foxborough and later owned and operated Foxboro Jewelers.
Richard was a member of the Foxborough Board of Selectmen in 1988 and, also, served on numerous town committees such as the Police and Fire Space Needs, Parking Behind Central Street, Council on Aging and Human Services Building Project, Police Applicant Interview Committee. In most recent years, he had worked tirelessly as the President of the Friends of Foxborough Seniors and, also, served as a member of the Foxborough Council on Aging. Richard spent many hours helping his dear friends, Dan Gay and Russ Thibeault at Foxboro Appliance where he was a familiar presence to their many customers.
In addition to his beloved dog, “Timmy”, Richard leaves his cousins Deborah Gates of Marblehead, Carolyn Bisegna of Beverly, Godchild Leslie Teague of Marblehead, Godchild Linda Thibodeau of Beverly, Robert Fraser of Kittery, Maine and Jeannie Vadeboncoeur of Haverhill as well as their extended families.
Friends and relatives are cordially invited to a memorial service on Monday, November 25, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South Street, Foxborough.
