Virginia R. Flaherty

Foxborough-Virginia “Ginny” Ruth Flaherty, age 82, a life long resident of Foxborough passed peacefully on the morning of May 7, 2010 after a five year battle with cancer. She was the daughter of the late William and Elenor (Gilmore) MacDowell.

Ginny was born in Norwood on July 16, 1927 and was a graduate of Walpole High School, Class of 1945. She and her husband Robert were married in Walpole on January 21, 1951.

A matriarch of the family, she provided never ending support to her immediate as well as extended family of nieces and nephews. She enjoyed camping and was a member of the Good Sam camping organization. She was an avid Boston Red Sox fan.

Wife of the late Robert B. Flaherty. Beloved mother of Sally and her husband Michael Burke and Robert Flaherty and his wife Rebecca all of Foxborough. Loving grandmother of Sherry Cummings, Stacy Hodson, Rob Flaherty, Jessica Carney and Jaclyn and Alix Flaherty.. Sister of the late Sally Hayes, Marion Collins and William MacDowell. Sister in-law of Nancy MacDowell of Oregon. Also survived by three great grandchildren and several loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral Information

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Monday, May 10, from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Roberts & Sons Funeral Home, 30 South St. in Foxborough. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11 AM at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 116 South St. in Foxborough. Interment to follow at Rock Hill Cemetery in Foxborough.
